New ‘eco homes’ open in Bradford on Avon

Five families are now settling into their new affordable eco homes after being welcomed by Duncan in Bradford on Avon on Friday.

boa_eco_housing.jpgThe five new three-bedroom homes at Poulton, Bradford on Avon, are Selwood Housing association’s greenest ever homes.

The new houses have been designed with solar panels to help provide hot water and heating, reducing the energy bills for the families living there and helping to reduce their impact on the environment. They are also energy efficient, well-insulated with waterbutts, compost bins and fitted with internal recycling bins for the segregation of waste. In addition, every home has a cycle shed to encourage a reduction in car use.

Duncan said:

“It’s great to see some of the local housing need being met by Selwood in an environmentally sound, high quality yet also cost-effective way.

“I’m impressed that Selwood continue to aim for higher environmental standards in their new buildings.”

The new homes have been let through Wiltshire Council’s Homes4Wiltshire. The development is on the former site of Selwood Housing garages, around £600,000. It was jointly funded by Selwood Housing and the Homes & Communities Agency. The homes are part of twenty-two garage developments in Bradford on Avon and Westwood.
