During the Liberal Democrat party conference, Duncan met with Scouts from across the UK to hear their views on key local and national issues affecting their lives at ‘Scouts Speak Up’, an interactive fringe event hosted by the Scout Association.
With over 50 Scouts and 20 MPs attending the event, participants discussed a wide range of issues that affect communities across the UK from how to change the perception of young people to ways in which MPs can encourage adult volunteering to allow more young people to join the Scouts.
‘Scouts Speak Up’ is part of a programme being run by the Scout Association to give young people the tools to advocate for themselves and the causes they care about. The event at the Liberal Democrat party conference was the first of these events to be held in Liverpool.
“The Scout Association is a great organisation that encourages young people to really get involved in their local communities.
“I have very much enjoyed meeting so many young people today who have shown that they are passionate about the decisions that we make in Parliament.”
